François Weil spins monumental stones that he collects from around the world (Albania, France, China, Egypt, Russia, Mali, Romania, Italy, Belgium, South Korea, Germany, India).
He creates astonishing mobile sculptures full of poetry and lightness, reminiscent of menhirs and dolmens; timeless stones carrying history, energy, and movement.
François Weil plays with the laws of gravity and inertia. The stone vibrates, speaks, moves, and breathes; through energy, it questions and surprises us. The artist explores the relationship between movement and balance, lightness and gravity, instant and eternity.
Using blocks of Angers slate, Vermont red slate (USA), Volvic lava, Brusvily granite, Averdon limestone, or Carrara marble, which he elegantly and energetically assembles, adding steel axes, he creates works with axial and lateral rotations that, with a small amount of energy, set themselves in motion, leaving us dizzy.
