Born in 1976, David Léger lives and works in Launac. Guided by his father, he discovered the stone cutting profession at a young age with the Compagnons du Tour de France.
For 11 years, he honed his skills in the field of stone sculpture.
He worked on the restoration sites of numerous historical monuments, such as Notre-Dame de Paris, the Pont Neuf in Paris, the Cathedral of Amiens, the basilica of Abbeville, and the Abbaye aux Hommes in Caen.
A trip to Carrara, the world reference for marble, was a revelation for him. He trained with the greatest stone cutters and foundries - Fabrizio Lorenzani, Andrea Barsi among others - and obtained a diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara.
He has participated in prestigious solo and group exhibitions in France (Salon Révélations at the Grand Palais éphémère in Paris in 2022 and 2023, Toulouse, Cahors, Fronton, Montauban...) and abroad (Florence Biennial of Contemporary Art in Italy, Switzerland, Barcelona...) as well as various sculpture symposiums.
David Léger, emotions at the heart
“I constantly seek vitality and contrast in my work. I question the voluptuous interplay of shadows and light, which sets the rhythm for the entire sculpture.
I seek something fluid, a certain lightness in form, a certain vitality.
My creation is based on the observation of the current world, my life, and above all, the sensations that nature brings me. These "energetic" sensations permeate through my being and allow me to contain a force. It is this force that shapes my work, becoming a receptacle for all imaginations. By entering into it, it awakens the heart to feelings and emotions. The "imaginations" are expressed through simple and provocative forms. They create a concept that evokes a sentiment, positioning the viewer in front of an emotion that is their own.” David Léger
